CAPE was organized at the 1984 annual meeting of the CPA (Canadian Psychiatric Association)
Collaboration
CAPE was created by a multidisciplinary group of researchers and teachers who recognized the need for greater communication among individuals sharing an interest in psychiatric epidemiology, but working in different parts of the country.
Vision
A second goal was to bring the usefulness of epidemiological findings and methods to the attention of clinicians, policy makers, service administrators and scientific investigators throughout the mental health field. Thus, it was thought that the membership would be composed of both producers and consumers of epidemiological research.
Training
A third goal was to improve the quality of training in psychiatric epidemiology offered to residents and graduate students in Canadian training centres. In the international field, the Academy has become a corporate member of the International Federation of Psychiatric Epidemiology.
